SEO for Small Businesses

This post will hopefully make it very clear why SEO for small business is a must, an absolute must if you are a small business. As an introduction, EJB Consulting is not an SEO company, I have been learning about SEO and found it to be extremely valuable. As I do assist business owners, I thought I would make the case as to why you should take notice and implement SEO into your online strategy.

What is SEO?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. To quote google (and their definition is really the only one that matters in my opinion):

"SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization" or "search engine optimizer." Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site. Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

Review of your site content or structure
Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
Content development
Management of online business development campaigns
Keyword research
SEO training
Expertise in specific markets and geographies."
So SEO is not one specific thing, rather it is a strategy. Search engines use algorithms to judge your content and "rank" it. That is when someone types a search phrase into a search engine, the search engine uses this algorithm to find the most relevant results. As a business owner, you should be thinking of those people searching as potential clients. If your clients cannot find you, or know of your services, you're hampering your business. Google uses over 200 factors in determining how your page is ranked. So, think of SEO as a combination of techniques to better present your business before your clients/customers.

Do I need a Professional SEO Company like Nineeye.com?

You may be asking yourself "Do I need a professional SEO company like Nineeye.com?" The answer is, it depends. It depends on your level of computer skill (it doesn't take much once your configured), it also takes a time commitment. As I said there are many factors involved, there is no "quick fix" solution, it's going to take some work on your part. If you are a business owner, and you have someone manage your web site, inquire if they are using SEO techniques.

Where do I learn SEO?

There are many options for learning about search engine optimization. I will cover them all in next post. One thing is certain, SEO works and as a business owner, you can't afford to ignore it.
